RE: Proposed World Service Corps Bills/Resolutions

Dear Congressman Farr,

As one who served in the Marine Corps reserve, the regular Navy and the regular Air Force, I can speak with feeling about life in the military.  I can also assure you that I would have been quite happy to have had the opportunity to take advantage of truly useful alternative service opportunities, had they been available to young folk in the late 40s and 50s.  Something like what is to be made available if the World Service Corps resolutions, SB 89 and HR 163 of 2004, are passed.  I’m reasonably sure I would have found myself in the military too, for a shorter time.

I understand that my friend, Dwayne Hunn, Ph.D. of Mill Valley, California – a veteran of the Peace Corps like yourself -- has formally asked you to co-sponsor both of the proposed World Service Corps resolutions.  As a Member of consequence in the House, your willingness to co-sponsor these bills would enhance their chances considerably, I believe, and I would be most grateful.

I look forward to your reply.  Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Charles Turk
