RE:  Your co-sponsorship sought on World Service Corp (WSC) proposals

Dear Representative Royce:

As a cost conscious representative whose goals include supporting our troops and vets, while protecting our nation, I hope you will recognize the value and effectiveness in addressing those issues through co-sponsoring my WSC proposals.

As immersed as you are in International Relations subcommittee work, it must be troubling that worldwide polling indicates that the world again perceives us as Ugly Americans. The Kennedy’s administration helped erase that image via establishing the Peace Corps.  Kennedy’s goal, however, was to have a million PCVs serving annually from the 1970’s onward.  Had we stationed that army of 34+ million cost-effective, peaceful, productive PCVs around the world, do you think we would have more or  less of the costly poverty, famines, ignorance, hatreds, genocides, and wars we have had?

If you believe that America and the world would have had less costly and bloody entanglements with those problems, then I urge you to become a co-sponsor of this proposed legislation.  My proposals are non-partisan.  They deal directly with our nation’s short and long-term national and economic security and, consequently, need bi-partisan support.

My two WSC proposals encourage national service for all Americans, and require service of those aged 18-26.  Under the proposals, those 18-26 and others would have their choice of serving in the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity, Head Start, Doctors Without Borders, or the Red Cross.  One WSC proposal would require one year of service.  If Americans choose the second WSC proposal and volunteered for two years of service, two years of community college and two years of state college (approximately $15,000) or vocational training or graduate school tuition fees equivalent would be paid.

Updated details, summaries and the full bills, news coverage, and an on-line Petition can be found at my web site:  www.dwaynehunn.biz

Similar requests have thus far been made to those CCed below.  I look forward to your reply.  Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Hunn
