RE: Proposed World Service Corps (WSC) Resolutions seeks your
co-sponsorship
Dear Congressman Rangel:
Thanks
for your 34 years of Congressional service fighting for equal opportunities for
all. I have always admired your
unflinching approach in fighting for your beliefs. I hope you find that my proposals fit with your
beliefs.
Congresswoman Woolsey, a strong believer in the
proposals, told me that you proposed and may re-introduce H.R. 3503, which
would create a national volunteer service corps available to respond to
domestic or international situations as necessary. Since your bill sounds like it has some of
the components that are encased in my proposals, I hope you will
enthusiastically co-sponsor the World Service Corp bills. As long as I am able to continue donating
time to the WSC proposals, I believe I can build substantial support for the
proposals. Building WSC support can only
help efforts such as HR 3503 and, consequently, increase the nation’s
understanding of why such programs are needed.
My
two WSC proposals call for national service, particularly by those aged 18-26. Under the proposals, those who serve have
their choice of serving in the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity,
Head Start, Doctors without Borders, or the Red Cross. One proposal would require one year of
service for all 18 -26 year olds. If
Americans choose the second WSC proposal and volunteered for two years of
service, two years of community college and two years of state college or
vocational training or graduate school tuition fees would be paid.
Would
you co-sponsor both WSC proposals?
