RE:  Proposed World Service Corp Bill seeking your co-sponsorship and/or support

Dear Representative Petri:

As a persistent foe of government waste, a creative legislator who cuts across party lines to make creative solutions, and as a fellow Peace Corps volunteer, I hope you share the belief that a drastic expansion in the kind of service hard working PCVs do is long overdue.

As you know better than I, Somalia’s tribal, literacy, and economic problems continue to plague that nation.  In 1992-93 those problems were certainly part of the reason for our sending American troops.  Too many Americans soldiers and Somalis lost their lives during that starving, turbulent time.

Major L. M. Martin, United States Marine Corps said in his 1995 report, Somalia: Humanitarian Success and Political/Military Failure, what most Americans believe.  Humanitarian works worked better than military aid and intervention.

From 1962-70, you were one of the 418 PCVs who served in the Republic of Somali.  I have no record of PCVS serving after that.  I think you would agree that had ten thousand PCVs served by now, the likelihood of 1992’s or today’s continuing problems would have been minimalized or erased.

With the hope that you share this belief, I am requesting you co-sponsor the attached proposed U.S. World Service Corps (WSC) bill/resolution.  A WSC is our most cost effective means to stem the growth of terrorism and win today’s long-term terror war.

The WSC proposal links public private partnerships with the best in America’s efforts to have all Americans serve at home and abroad.  Your staff can link to updated World Service Corps information by clicking to the opening link at www.dwaynehunn.biz.

Similar requests have thus far been made to those CCed below.

I look forward to your reply.  Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Hunn
