Visionary President John Kennedy wanted the Peace Corps to reach a million within a decade of its 1961 formation.  Then, he said, “It would be significant.”  Today, only about 180,000 Peace Corps volunteers (PCVs) have trained and served.

Imagine if 20-30 million PCVs had served by now.  Would the world be safer, healthier, and richer?  Would terrorists have been reduced to a non-bothersome number?  Would a significant number of Americans today understand the world so much better that fewer public policy blunders would have been undertaken?

We have missed more than a generation of doing good, doing well, and getting smart.  It has caused us to stumble into $500+ billion Vietnam and $1+ trillion Iraqi quagmires.  Neither a growing chorus of citizen complaints nor politicians promoting diplomacy or more guns will end this costly downhill spiral.

Returning  to the mountain top comes from involving Americans in serving and thereby learning about the world and America’s needs.  It is how America:

·     Beat the Depression and Fascism.

·     Must help the Global Village defeat ignorance, hatreds, poverty, climate change, and our tendency to stumble into dumbed-down public policies.

·     Productively addresses domestic needs.

People’s Lobby’s (PLI) citizen-initiated American World Service Corps (AWSC) Congressional Proposals provides the means to have 21 million Americans voluntarily serve over the next 27 years.  Its ten revenue streams provides  progressive, unique, and traditional  means of having those most able to fund the projected 27 year cost.  People’s Lobby needs support from your elected representatives and candidates.  Ask them where they stand on PLI’s AWSC Congressional Proposals.  Support those who are smart enough to support the AWSC

“I commend you and Dwayne for your interest in creating a volunteer service corps.  Citizen service is not only noble, but also necessary.  We must all focus on improving our country, and volunteering is a terrific and effective way to bring about needed change...”

“Thank you very much for sharing your materials about the American World Service Corps.  Active efforts like yours make this journey worthwhile…”     Barack Obama

General Zinni asked about AWSC on TV interview:  “But I would say one thing about going back to the point about national service program offered to our youth.  Don’t exclude anybody.  Don’t say that it’s an alternate service to the military.  Because right away you are creating two sides to this.  It should be all encompassing.  You know, when you talk about national service, there should be the option to serve in uniform or to serve in one of the other areas.  I think there are many possibilities here…”                              Four Star Marine General Zinni

“If (the American World Service Corps Congressional Proposals) should include others…  It should include people to deal with corruption – doctors, lawyers, accountants…  We’ve got so much talent, we should use it…”                                                    General  Wesley Clark

“The nation building stability of the American World Service Corps will reduce the pressure on our military…  The humanitarian service these teams provide is just as vital to our security and world stability, as the military has been...”                            General Paul Monroe, Army Retired

“The World Service Corps is an idea whose time has come.  The Peace Corps laid the groundwork by sending citizen ambassadors from the United States to perform humanitarian service throughout the developing world.  The World Service Corps expands upon this mission by providing appropriate volunteer resources to meet the human needs resulting from catastrophic events and mobilizing patriotic Americans to address the root causes of poverty and violence around the world...”                                           Charles Brown, Col USAF Retired

Candidate, 4th Congressional District

"I applaud your (PLI's) efforts to find new ways to encourage involvement by our fellow citizens in domestic and international affairs- to not only help to improve our international relations, but also assists us in our own philosophical and practical understanding of the multitude issues of our world…”                                                                            Assemblyman Mark Leno

                                                                                                State Senate Candidate

“The AWSC Congressional Proposals for Americans provide an opportunity for Americans to learn about and address the growing number of problems that are lying on our doorstep.  By having a million Americans a year voluntarily work in effective governmental and non-governmental organizations, the program provides can-do Americans with the capacity and insights to produce significant improvements in each state, our nation, and the world…”

                                                                                                California Senator Carol Migden

"If the American World Service Corps had existed when Patrick was alive, he would have served there... and he'd be alive today..."                                                              Gold Star Mom Nadia McCaffrey
