Army Colonel Diane Corcoran support statement.

I believe Peoples Lobby’s citizen-initiated American World Service Corps (AWSC) Congressional Proposal is a serious step forward in helping establish and demonstrate service oriented values to our children and our nation.

We are throwing millions of dollars at projects that continue to be unsuccessful.  With leadership and dedication, I believe this project could not only help solve some of the basic issues of need, it can give people meaningful work and a sense of accomplishment.  The AWSC will build basic and hone advanced skills in communication, leadership, teamwork, and cooperation.  Along the way, many more skills will be learned via meaningful mentorship and projects.

I believe the ASWC projects would also be an excellent alternative to some punishment based systems.  Many times young people simply need boundaries and direction and an adult who cares weather they're successful. There are many uses for this program in which adults serving with our youth will make the AWSC a life changing event.

When I was in nursing school I was chosen to go on a two month tour of medical facilities in India, it changed my life and my understanding of how fortunate we are as a country. I personally believe every child should have a chance to spend time in a less empowered country and learn a second and third language.

I will do whatever is necessary to help support this legislation.
