RE: Proposed World Service
Corps Bill/Resolution seeks your co-sponsorship
Dear Senator Clinton:
I enjoyed watching you and
Senator McCain thinking live and responding civilly on Meet the Press on
February 20th. I found your use of the
term ‘vigorously engaging in the world” appropriate for today’s needs. The enclosed proposal vigorously engages
Americans and is reminiscent of some of JFK’s policies that seem to have
inspired some of your husband’s goals as president.
As a member of the Senate Armed
Service Committee, you know the cost we bear by not making the global village
less prone to draining the blood of our brave soldiers in it. We need dynamic, cost-effective, long-term
engagement that makes the global village more likely to turn out understanding,
healthy citizens rather than fundamentalist, angry radicals. The WSC proposal does that, while addressing
long-term homeland, economic, and national security needs. Therefore, I hope you will co-sponsor the
resolution along with Senator McCain and others.
The WSC proposal uses a Warm
Draft and a public-non-governmental agency joint venture to engage a
million peaceful American warriors into addressing the world’s needs. In this Warm Draft, young Americans
choose service in Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity, Head Start,
Doctors Sans Borders, and the Red Cross, while older Americans can
volunteer. We live in a dangerous
nuclear and bio-terror era. We need bold
policies in which all Americans can engage to reduce the likelihood that
fundamental ignorance can blow us backwards into a Darkened Era.
