At its February 1st meeting, the Marin Democratic Central Committee (MDCC) “Overwhelmingly approved the non-partisan American World Service Corps Congressional Proposals,” according to MDCC President Greg Brockbank.

The American World Service Corps Congressional Proposals comes out of the 6th Assemble District under the sponsorship of Peoples Lobby Inc., once known as a grassroots initiative factory and law-making schoolroom.  One of its accomplishment included leading the triumphriate of Governor Jerry Brown and Common Cause to pass via initiative the Political Reform Act of 1974, which established California Fair Political Practices Commission.  www.peopleslobby.us

The MDCC joins the California State Democratic party, which gave a unanimous resolution of support to the non-partisan AWSC proposal last year.  http://www.worldservicecorps.us/wsc%201-%202006%20resolutions%20california%20democratic%20party.htm ;

and others such as the Northern California Physicians for Social Responsibility http://www.worldservicecorps.us/psr%20worldwervicecorps%20resolution_2006.htm .

“Since this is non-partisan legislation that benefits the nation, we are hopeful that Republican, Green, and Independent parties and groups will allow us to speak to them and gain their support.  Having a million Americans voluntarily serving in the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity, Head Start, Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross, International Rescue Committee, OxFam, Mercy Corps and State Conservation Corps under the AWSC umbrella is a cost-effective program we cannot afford to put off much longer,” said Executive Director, Dwayne Hunn.
